Click here to learn how you can create multiple new revenue streams from your photography
Holding a DSLR for the first time can be quite overwhelming and you may want to completely understand how your camera does what it does with the buttons and switches that it has. This week Mark will show you what these buttons do.

@ftpaddict Canon and Nikon are two popular models. He used those two because viewers will most likely have one of the two, moron.
@ftpaddict even i can tell that “Getting to know your DSLR” isnt an educational video for you, so why watch it just to moan about it…
it really confused me a lot about auto exposure mode. if we could have more detailed about auto exposure would be great.
@ftpaddict totally agree, but must be difficult to show every brand in the world, but at least showing canon and nikon Mark help the vast majority of users. Thank you Mark! your videos are a huge help
@ftpaddict but are the best!!!!!
@ftpaddict Stop being a jerk, use common sense dude. They’re obviously and unarguably the most used brands. Do you really expect Mark to sit and make videos for all the cameras in the world? huh?
Great Tutorials as usual!
Umm did she get a manual with her camera? :/
Don’t leave home without it
very informative as always… i wish i hav at least 25% of your camera knowledge…u r just awesome..
@ftpaddict haha exactly thank you for proving my point. indeed they are the most popular brands hence why he shows those two. i never said they were the best and thats an irrelevant point with what we are discussing anyways.
@Eclipse711 Better read up on hard numbers before coming up with percentages. Canon + Nikon held about 65% of the DSLR market in 2010. 35% is not statistically insignificant.
I would also note that Canon and Nikon are only the most popular brands, they are not the best.
@ftpaddict haha how can i be a fan boy i didnt even say which one i like. it would only be stupid for him to waste time talking about the other 1% of the market.
@Eclipse711 Go be a fanboy somewhere else.
@ftpaddict the only ones that matter
Let’s not be sarcastic nor harsh to Cynthia.
Everyone have their first time.
@ftpaddict A lot of people are not buying a DSLR because they want to be a pro photographer. They simply have the money to buy but are too busy to bother reading the manual or understanding the terms when they can just have someone explain it to them within an hour. I know so, because I help people at my work with their DSLR even after they read the manual. I know the feeling ’cause I went through that BS when I first got my Canon Rebel XT.
On note, I’m not a bias, I know about Mamiya and others
@wilbertcs You mean it isn’t best for people who can’t read? Profficiency in photography means being both artistic and technical, and if you can’t be bothered to take initiative and learn proper use of your tools, you’re better off with a compact or superzoom.
Mamiya, but I hate brand bias. Canon and Nikon’s only advantage is availability of 500mm+ lenses and, let’s face it, you shouldn’t be buying into a system based on the availability of a $6000 lens.
@jmalonear Your point being?
@ftpaddict The manual isn’t the best thing for everybody, especially the more visual type of people
Canon and Nikon aren’t the only brands but they are the top ones. I bet you have a Pentax.
@ftpaddict just pretty much the only two that photographers use.
@AlfabetSoop Haha same here. Never used it before until one day when I got my new camera and read the instructions.
@ftpaddict It’s true but Canon and Nikon is the biggest brands out there and the majority of the people that watches these vids have a Canon or a Nikon. Shutterspeeds, apertures, DOF, and so on works the same on all cameras. I don’t use Canon or Nikon
@applepiewithtoast Those are the only two brands he ever features in his videos.
@ftpaddict When did he say that Canon and Nikon is the only brands in the world?
Me at 6:24 : NO SHIT…
COMPLETELY did not know that. I really did just think it was a piece of rubber with a brand on it… And I almost pulled it off. I’m very glad I didn’t now. Thank you Mark.
